For our entire lives we were taught to get married first and have sex second. Obviously, that didn’t play out. However, we always associated sex with guilt aka Catholic Guilt ( For the record I went to catholic School). We felt guilty for fornicating (ha!) or for committing a sin with someone who wasn’t our wife. We felt like somehow we weren’t following the instructions that our family gave us…or worse God’s commandment!
Although we do believe that sex is meant for certain situations, we often carried a sense of shame, like we were failures because we couldn’t abstain as long as we had hoped.
Even within a committed or monogamous relationship we aren’t 100% comfortable with sex. It might be enjoyable–even amazing at times. But still it is a cardinal sin, right? Sex before marriage isn’t really acceptable in the traditional society. Yet, Instead of educating young girls and boys– on why they should put off intimacy, or maybe even educate them about how to have safe sex we don’t. We chastize those teens that have sex and end up pregnant, instead of offering solutions such as birth control or after conception options. They’re lives are effectively ruined and oh what a coincidence, those kids are usually poor and Black or Latino.
So now I’m going to pose some questions that really need to considered. Can we start educating kids about condoms, birth control and planned parenthood? Can we stop being so thick headed when it comes to education in schools dealing with these things? Why does our nation have the highest teen birth rates and the largest military spending? Why is always money for war but never money to take care of starving children? Why do we allow conservative right wing asshole politicians dictate how our children will learn about the miracle of life? Since when did it become their job to tell us how to raise our kids, shouldn’t they be more concerned with our rights and protecting our infrastructure?
I’m done ranting but seriously it’s 2016, this country needs to speed the fuck up on social issues. It’s pathetic that desperate Republicans latch onto trying to tell women what to do with their bodies. Oh and always #fuckTrump !
