Each year, marijuana aficionados celebrate an unofficial holiday of weed. In the United States, marijuana is a mainstream social issue as advocates of legalizing weed argue it is safer than alcohol while
Republicans or ignorant people opponents make the case that marijuana is a gateway drug that does the body harm. How safe is marijuana? Well it’s pretty damn safe, you can’t OD on it and it has a lot of medicinal benefits. The strongest trials supported cannabinoids ability to relieve chronic pain, while the least reliable evidence involved things like curing nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy, sleep disturbances and Tourette syndrome. Cannabinoids were, however, connected to more adverse events such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness, disorientation and hallucinations than placebo.
Summing up the state of the evidence, Whiting and her colleagues write that “Further large, robust, randomized clinical trials are needed to confirm the effects of cannabinoids, particularly on weight gain in patients with HIV-AIDS, depression, sleep disorders, anxiety disorders, psychosis, glaucoma, and Tourette syndrome.”
Let’s take Holland for example, it decriminalized Marijuana and other soft drugs. And despite what right wing conservative would have you believe the country did not collapse in some sort of cesspool of debauchery and criminal hedonism. In fact, the quality of life is much higher in Holland than in the U.S., so it makes me wonder…is the agenda of our politicians that fight marijuana reform to help cure the sick and make life better or is it to keep offenders in privatized jails while maintaining the legal drug industries that so generously donate to their campaigns? You decide, and while you’re deciding smoke a fatty and see if it doesn’t help change your perspective on shit.
